New Work

Photo Transfer Work This ongoing series of works begins with a photo or print image as the under drawing. What is being developed here is the fusion of the graphic print with the painterly surface of encaustic: a fusion of a linear grid with lyrical textures and colours. The delight here is the visual play, the shifting of the two realities of printed image and the brushstroke. Inspiration comes from the romance of the landscape, be this the powerful beauty of the arctic, the mystery of ancient walls and arches or the homely comfort of a country road.

Plaster Pieces

Sculpturally rich, these pieces invite the viewer to enter a dialogue with the interplay of the compostional elements, colour, texture, line and shape. The plaster has frozen canvas into a topographical relief of fissures, hills and valleys, the rhythm of which is interrupted by a grid of square or rectangles - seemingly windows or doors into another dimension.

New Work
Although these new works are a theme in progress, the interplay of colour and texture is a strong focus, with a purposeful attention to compositional elements of design, rhythm and the power of intense colour.

 

Encaustic with Drawing
In these works, drawing takes the role of "grid master". Beginning with graphite drawings on board, the interplay is again with the elements of graphic linearity and painterly texture and colour.

"Colour Field" Pieces
The luscious glow and richness of colour and texture is showcased in this series which explores the visual impact of colour against colour. Elements of colour theory as developed by master painters such as Barnett Newman are celebrated.
